Steel Grade AISI 1045
This is a fully killed steel produced to a fine grain practice by the electric arc, or basic oxygen furnace process. Its relatively high strength coupled with reasonably good ductility make it a natural choice for miscellaneous parts such as shafts and gears.
Special welding procedures are required in welding this grade because its relatively high carbon and manganese content promote high hardness and brittleness in the affected heat zone.
